A message from the outgoing President, Stavros Avramidis
Dear Esteemed Fellows of the International Academy of Wood Science,
As my three-year term as President comes to a close on June 2, 2026, I write to you with profound gratitude and a heart full of cherished memories. It has been the greatest honor of my professional life to serve this distinguished body and to work alongside such passionate, dedicated scholars and practitioners. Together, we have advanced our mission to promote excellence in wood science research, fostered meaningful collaborations across continents, and inspired the next generation of scientists to appreciate the remarkable complexity and potential of wood as a renewable resource. Your unwavering commitment to scientific rigor, innovation, and the sustainable stewardship of our forest resources has been a constant source of inspiration throughout my tenure.
As I step down from this role, I do so with complete confidence in the Academy's future and in the capable leadership that will guide us forward. The bonds we have forged, the knowledge we have shared, and the collective impact we have made will endure long beyond my presidency. I encourage each of you to continue pushing the boundaries of wood science, to mentor generously, and to maintain the collegial spirit that makes our Academy truly exceptional. While my formal duties conclude, my dedication to our shared mission remains steadfast, and I look forward to contributing as an executive committee member as past-president for the next three years.
